Wojciech Szczęsny arrives in Barcelona to finalize a deal and replace injured goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen.
Wojciech Szczęsny arrived in Barcelona on Monday to undergo medical tests and finalize a one-year contract with FC Barcelona. The Polish goalkeeper, who landed at El Prat Airport at 10:30 am, avoided the press as he was swiftly escorted from the terminal to a club vehicle.
A Replacement for Injured Ter Stegen
Following a knee injury to Marc-André ter Stegen, Barcelona sought an experienced free agent goalkeeper. Szczęsny, who recently retired, was an ideal option. La Liga approved the deal under a rule allowing clubs to sign goalkeepers outside the transfer window if injuries occur.
Debut Expected After International Break
Szczęsny is expected to make his debut against Sevilla on October 20, following the international break. He will join Robert Lewandowski and other stars in training shortly. On Tuesday, he’s set to watch Barcelona’s Champions League clash with Young Boys from the stands.
