Wojciech Szczęsny’s heroic saves help Juventus secure 1-1 draw against Sevilla in Europa League Semifinals

Juventus managed to secure a 1-1 draw against Sevilla in the first leg of the Europa League semifinals. Despite conceding a goal to Youssef En-Nesyri, Wojciech Szczęsny‘s heroic saves were lauded by the Italian media, including La Gazzetta dello Sport which ranked him among the team’s top performers.

The hosts struggled to find their footing throughout the match and it wasn’t until the seventh minute of extra time that Federico Chiesa managed to equalize the score. However, the standout player for Juventus was undoubtedly Szczęsny who kept the team in the game with his exceptional saves, earning him a well-deserved rating of 6.5 from TuttoMercatoWeb.

“Dual outstanding saves in the first half, not at fault for En-Nesyri’s goal. He provides assurance and even with an average performance from the rest of the team, he is one of the best in the squad,” noted TuttoMercatoWeb. Only Danilo and Paul Pogba were rated higher than Szczęsny in the match.

La Gazzetta dello Sport also praised Szczęsny’s performance, highlighting his two saves against Lucas Ocampos and awarding him a rating of 6. The only players deemed superior to the goalkeeper by the Italian newspaper were Pogba, Chiesa, and Samuel Iling-Junior.

In the 62nd minute, Arkadiusz Milik entered the game to bolster the team’s attack. However, he was unable to make much of an impact against a well-organized Sevilla defense, earning him a rating of 5.5 from both TuttoMercatoWeb and La Gazzetta dello Sport.
