    World Nomad Games Set for September

    The 5th World Nomad Games begin on September 8 in Astana, Kazakhstan, featuring traditional nomadic sports and cultural events.

    On September 8, the 5th World Nomad Games will commence, showcasing ethnic sports rooted in Central Asian nomadic traditions. This six-day event aims to promote ethnosports and ethnocultural movements.

    A Global Gathering

    Approximately 2,500 athletes from nearly 100 countries will participate, attracting over 100,000 tourists. Organized by Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports, UNESCO, and the Organization of Turkic States, the Games will take place in Astana, Kazakhstan’s capital, under the slogan “Uly dala dubiri” or “Meeting on the Great Steppe.”

    Diverse Competitions

    Competitions will be held in 21 disciplines, including horse racing, national wrestling, traditional intellectual games, martial arts, traditional archery, national bird hunting, and folk games. A total of 97 medal sets will be awarded.

    Cultural Celebration

    Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized the Games’ significance in promoting national sports and strengthening cultural ties among the Great Steppe’s nomadic descendants. Established in 2014, the Games celebrate the cultural and sports heritage of nomadic peoples, growing in scale and importance with each iteration.
