WOT deployed to combat floods in Poland, amid delays in the official request for military support from regional authorities.
Poland’s Territorial Defense Forces (WOT) were mobilized to combat severe flooding in southern regions. Despite delays in the official request for assistance, WOT had already deployed four task forces, named “Małopolska,” “Śląsk,” “Dolny Śląsk,” and “Wielkopolska.” These units were equipped with 500 soldiers each and specialized equipment, including trucks, pumps, and amphibious transport vehicles.
Delayed Request from the Lower Silesian Governor
Despite WOT’s proactive measures, the Lower Silesian Governor only officially requested support from the Ministry of Defense last night. This delay was confirmed by Lt. Col. Robert Pękala, the WOT spokesperson, who explained that WOT acts as the crisis management center for the Defense Ministry. In response to the escalating threat, additional forces, including 4,000 soldiers from operational units, were placed on standby, ready to assist if the situation worsens.
