The reverberations of the death of the late Barbara Skrzypek—who for years was a close associate of Jarosław Kaczyński—have not subsided. Emotions are running high, fueled by Prosecutor Ewa Wrzosek. Just days before Skrzypek’s passing, Wrzosek questioned her, refusing to allow Skrzypek’s attorney to take part. Her post on X shocked internet users.
Prosecutor Ewa Wrzosek is in charge of the investigation into the so-called “two towers.” The case, which had been discontinued years ago, was reopened and handed over to Wrzosek, who has not shied away from political commentary. On Saturday, news broke in Poland of the death of Barbara Skrzypek—a close associate of Jarosław Kaczyński (PiS)—who had been questioned only days earlier by Wrzosek as a witness. The prosecutor did not allow Skrzypek’s attorney to participate in the proceedings, despite Skrzypek pointing out health issues and experiencing considerable distress during questioning.
Following Skrzypek’s death, Wrzosek wrote about the “friendly atmosphere” of the interrogation. Today, she left the prosecutor’s office as the president of Law and Justice was giving a speech in front of the building. She also posted on social media: “The first thing that dies is the truth,” Ewa Wrzosek wrote.
This post, viewed by many as highly inappropriate, drew widespread criticism—not only from the political right. “Seriously? Right now, of all times, did you have to post something about dying?” asked MP Anna Maria Żukowska (Lewica).
