During his testimony before the parliamentary investigative committee on Pegasus, Zbigniew Ziobro spoke extensively about the Polnord scandal. He repeatedly mentioned the involvement of Roman Giertych. The Civic Platform lawyer has threatened the former justice minister with a formal complaint to the prosecutor’s office.
In his free statement before the self-styled parliamentary investigative committee, Zbigniew Ziobro publicly revealed the findings made possible for the security services through the use of so-called Pegasus software. Among them, he listed two high-profile cases—those of Sławomir Nowak and Roman Giertych.
The latter is tied to the investigation into the Polnord scandal. “He is not any victim in this case but a thief who organized, on a large scale, the siphoning of millions of zlotys from Polnord at the expense of shareholders,” Ziobro explained. He also added that Roman Giertych has, “to put it mildly, a reason not to like me and to take revenge.”
The Civic Platform lawyer himself reacted to the statement. “I am filing a complaint against Mr. Ziobro. He is giving false testimony, slandering, and insulting,” he wrote on platform X.
The former justice minister also recounted a story about how a company linked to the wife of a bodyguard of a current Civic Platform MP allegedly made nearly 20 million zlotys in just over a week.
“An example of such a company, set up in July 2010, is a firm called Properties 33, which suddenly, despite having no employees, conducting no business activity, and with share capital of just 5,000 zlotys—and owned by the wife of Mr. Giertych’s bodyguard—suddenly this company, as if manna from heaven, obtained 7.5 million zlotys. With that money, it bought a property near Poznań, which was then sold off just eight days later to the Polnord company for the considerable sum of 27 million zlotys. Eight days—did you hear that? Even in America, the dreams of American business greatness don’t give such examples, where in 8 days one can make over 20 million,” he said.
