Minister of Justice Waldemar Żurek is picking up speed in submitting motions for the State Tribunal (TS) against politicians from Law and Justice (PiS). First – it concerned Zbigniew Ziobro, and now – two other ministers in the PiS government and former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. “The collapse of the healthcare system, the most expensive holidays in history, all Donald has left is the prosecution service, pathetic,” responded the former head of the Council of Ministers.
Waldemar Żurek, Minister of Justice and Prosecutor General, continues the line of “accountability” for politicians of the United Right expected by the hardest core of the 13 December Coalition. On Wednesday, the public learned about the motion for the State Tribunal (TS) for Zbigniew Ziobro, which Żurek submitted to the current Marshal of the Sejm. Włodzimierz Czarzasty announced that MPs of the coalition “are already collecting signatures”.
Perhaps encouraged by Czarzasty’s response, today he announced further motions submitted to the Marshal’s desk.
“Prosecutor General Waldemar Żurek has today provided the Marshal of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland, Włodzimierz Czarzasty, with information regarding the presentation to Mateusz M[orawiecki]., Mariusz B[łaszczak]. and Krzysztof A[rdanowski]. – members of the Council of Ministers – of charges of committing offences related to the positions they held” – reads the communiqué from the prosecutor’s office. The statement emphasises that “members of the Council of Ministers are accountable before the State Tribunal”.
“The Sejm of the Republic of Poland, when examining the motions of the prosecutor to lift the immunity of Mateusz M., Mariusz B. and Krzysztof A., expressed itself solely in the scope of consenting to their being held criminally liable, without taking a position on their potential constitutional responsibility” – added the prosecutor’s office in the communiqué signed by Anna Adamiak, spokesperson for the Prosecutor General.
Mateusz Morawiecki commented briefly on the matter.
“The collapse of the healthcare system, the most expensive holidays in history, all Donald has left is the prosecution service, pathetic,” he wrote on social media.
According to Dariusz Matecki, PiS MP, the Prosecutor General’s motions are “a distraction from the collapse of the healthcare service”.
“Illegal prosecutor’s office, to bring someone before the State Tribunal for actions taken in the Council of Ministers – you need 276 MPs. You don’t have that number, even with Confederation. Unless Żurek changes the Constitution by regulation or Tusk by decree,” he stated.
