As we reported earlier, the opposition still cannot come fully to terms with its defeat in the presidential elections. Cezary Tomczyk, from the Civic Coalition, announced today that his party had received many reports of negligence and improper behaviour by members of electoral commissions across the country. The Civic Platform party hopes that by encouraging citizens to file electoral protests, it may still beat Andrzej Duda, even though he received 430,000 more votes than his opponent, Rafał Trzaskowski.
“We have received reports from all over Poland that people were sent away from the electoral commissions without the chance to vote, that in many places there were no proper stamps on the ballots. In many cases, people were unable to register to vote outside their home towns, this happened especially often in the south, in Zakopane, Białka and many other places. We also received reports of malpractice and negligence in the north. However, the worst situation was abroad. Hundreds of thousands of Poles were unable to vote, they were stripped of one of the most essential rights. There were 170 thousand invalid votes and 110 thousand postal votes which were never sent back or were returned with mistakes. These are all matters we need to clear up as soon as possible”, stated Cezary Tomczyk.
Since the National Electoral Commission announced Andrzej Duda as the winner of the 2020 presidential elections, he will begin his second term of office as soon as the Supreme Court confirms the outcome and legality of the elections. The electoral protests may be filed up to this Thursday, July 16th.
