Kuźmiuk about the linking of EU funds with the rule of law: 'It is absolutely not what the opposition would like'

The rule of law is included in the summit conclusions, but it is included only in the sense that if the EU’s financial interests were threatened, the EC has the right to block subsequent tranches of funds. It is absolutely not as if the opposition wished it, Member of European Parliament Zbigniew Kuźmiuk said for Niezalezna.pl.

Under the Multiannual Financial Framework and the European Facility for Reconstruction, Poland will receive approximately EUR 139 billion in grants and EUR 34 billion in loans. Kuźmiuk, asked about the issue of the rule of law, given the fact there are some ambiguities in relation to it, explained that “the rule of law is included in the summit conclusions, but it is written only in the sense that if the EU’s financial interests were threatened, the EC has the right to block subsequent tranches of funds”. “It is absolutely not as if the opposition wished it, that any statement coming from Poland that or that we are dealing with would allow the European Commission to block funding – there will be no such possibility,” he explained.
