A winning comeback of Iga Świątek! Polish tennis player wins against Kaja Juvan in Melbourne

Iga Swiatek won her first match this year. The Polish tennis player defeated Kaja Juvan after a three-set duel in the 1/16 final of the tournament in Melbourne. In the next round, the preparing for the start of the Grand Slam Australian Open, Iga will play with Ekaterina Alexandrova.

The Polish player’s comeback after her triumph at Roland Garros did not start well. Iga Świątek, who had a free draw in the first round in Melbourne, met Kaja Juvan in the second round. The Slovenian, who is currently ranked 104th in the WTA, started the duel without any respect for her higher-ranked rival.

The third set was, therefore, to decide the fate of the match. Juvan started it off brilliantly. She won a game on her serve without losing a point, but Świątek quickly responded. The Polish tennis player firstly served well and then broke her opponent to take the lead until the end of the match.

Iga will play in the next round against Ekaterina Alexandrovna who is 33rd in the WTA rankings. The Russian beat Anna Karolina Schmiedlova in the 1/16 finals in Melbourne. The tournament is treated by most of the players as a stage of preparation for the Grand Slam Australian Open which begins on the 8th February.
