    2022 Pro Dignitate Humana award presented to House of St Martin de Porres in Fastovo, Ukraine

    On December 15, the Pro Dignitate Humana Award was presented. Its laureate this year was the House of St Martin de Porres in Fastovo, Ukraine. On behalf of the laureate, the Award was received from the hands of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Zbigniew Rau by Fr. Jarosław Krawiec, Provincial Vicar of the Dominicans in Ukraine.

    On the governmental website, one can read that the House of St. Martin has begun its activity by organizing a modest youth centre, offering care for children with disabilities, preparing meals for the elderly, and building a football pitch. 

    What is more, the organization is also accountable for helping those who lost their homes during the war in Ukraine. It also got involved in the construction of container houses, while its volunteers are helping to rebuild homes destroyed in Russian attacks. 

    “The Pro Dignitate Humana award has been conferred annually for 11 years by the Polish Foreign Minister to a private individual or a non-governmental organisation in recognition of uncompromising actions to defend the rights of repressed people and those at risk of repression and in recognition of a steadfast attitude in defence of individual rights and respect for human dignity,”
