Scientists from all over Poland signed the statement on the reconstruction of the Saxon Palace in Warsaw, expressing their support for this government initiative. The professors drew attention to extremely important issues related to the reconstruction, as well as referred to skeptics who do not support this method of commemorating the 100th anniversary of Poland regaining independence. 54 professors signed the declaration.
The Sejm recently passed an act on the preparation and implementation of investments in the reconstruction of the Saxon Palace, Brühl Palace, and tenement houses at Królewska Street in Warsaw. Earlier, the deputies adopted an amendment stating that a candidate for the Reconstruction Council was proposed, inter alia, by Speaker of the Sejm. 234 deputies voted in favor of the bill, 173 were against and 35 abstained. Earlier, the Sejm did not consent to the rejection of the bill in full.
The reconstruction of the Saxon Palace is to be part of the commemoration of the hundredth anniversary of Poland’s regaining independence, celebrated in 2018.
The idea of rebuilding the buildings destroyed during the war is supported by the people of Polish science – they have stated this matter.
“We are pleased to hear that the Sejm of the Republic of Poland has passed the Act of 23 July 2021 on the preparation and implementation of investments in the reconstruction of the Saxon Palace, Brühl Palace, and tenement houses at Królewska Street in Warsaw. The adopted law gives hope that the reconstruction of the Saxon and Brühl palaces will be resumed and implemented, in line with the “Declaration on the restitution of the Saxon Palace in Warsaw to commemorate the hundredth anniversary of the restoration of the independence of the Republic of Poland” announced by the President of the Republic of Poland on November 11, 2018,” scientists from universities throughout Poland wrote in the statement.
