Joao Almeida (Deceuninck-Quick Step) won the 4th stage of the 78th Tour. Tour de Pologne from Tarnów to Bukowina Tatrzańska. It was the second stage win for the race leader, who strengthened his lead in the general classification. The fourth to cross the finishing line was Michał Kwiatkowski (INEOS-Grenadiers).
For the second day in a row in the yellow jersey the leader of the 78. TdP was ridden by the Portuguese Joao Almeida (Deceuninck-Quick Step), the winner of stage 2 with the finishing line in Przemyśl. The next stage did not bring any changes in the lead. Four seconds were lost by Diego Ulissi (UAE-Team Emirates) and Matej Mohorić. Right behind them, with a loss of 11 seconds, was Michał Kwiatkowski (INEOS-Grenadiers), who on Wednesday won the jersey of the leader of the sprinters’ classification. Whereas the best ‘mountain biker’ after three stages was Łukasz Owsian.
The rider of the national team of Poland started Thursday’s race strongly. He won the PZU Mountain Bonus of the 3rd category in Lubinka, situated at the 13th kilometre. In the 20th km, five riders broke away from the front: Hungarian Attila Valter (Groupama-FDJ), American Larry Warbasse (AG2R Citroen Team), Italian Marco Canola (Gazprom-RusVelo) and Belgians Edward Theuns (Trek-Segafredo) and Quinten Hermans from Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert Materiaux. The last of them was the fastest at the LOTTO Lotną Premia in Zakliczyń. He immediately rejoined the peloton and the other four riders continued the breakaway.
