Oksana Shvets, a 67-year-old actress working with Molodyy Theatre (Young Theatre) died in the Kyiv bombing on March 17th. She was one of the biggest Ukrainian actors and a recipient of the Merited Artist of Ukraine title.
Oksana Shvets was born on February 10th, 1955. She studied acting at the Ivan Franko Theatre, where she graduated in 1975. She later additionally studied at the I.K. Karpenko-Kary Academy of Theatre Arts in Kyiv. She worked for the Ternopil Music and Drama Theatre, Kyiv Theatre of Satire and Molodyy Theatre. She played in movies and theatre alike, including titles such as “House of Lillies”, “Tomorrow Will Be Tomorrow” and “Mukhtar Returns”. She was a renowned actress and a recipient of the Merited Artist of Ukraine honorary title (1996).
On March 17th a Russian-lead shelling on Kyiv took place. Oksana Shvets was hiding in one of the residential buildings that became the target of the attack. She was with her son, who made it out alive. Unfortunately, the star wasn’t as lucky.
