A group of 12 representatives from Poland took part in European Judo Championships Seniors Sofia 2022. Piotr Kuczera won the silver medal and is a European vice-champion. Kinga Wolszczak was in 5th place and unfortunately came home without a medal.
Piotr Kuczera (KS Kejza Team Rybnik) fought 4 victorious duels on his way to the final. Then, in the final -100kg category Piotr Kuczera lost by ippon to Michael Korrel from the Netherlands. He is the 10th player in the IJF ranking. Previously, Korrel’s greatest success was the bronze medal at the 2019 World Cup in Tokyo.
Kinga Wolszczak (WKS Śląsk Wrocław) in the -78kg category first won with Serbian Milica Żabic. Then, she lost with the bronze medalist of the Tokyo Olympics, the leader of the world ranking Romane Dicko from France. In the duel for the bronze medal, Wolszczak lost by ippon to Italian Asya Tavano. Wolszczak finished without a medal, but with a very good performance.
