Polish footballers’ selector Czesław Michniewicz found it difficult to hold back from smiling after the qualifying draw of the Euro 2024. The White and Reds were very lucky and are favourites to advance to the European Championship, hosted by Germany.
In Sunday’s draw for the Euro 2024 qualifiers, the Poles met the rivals against whom they will fight for promotion to the European football championships in Germany. The Polish national team drawn from the first basket – cannot complain. The team led by coach Czesław Michniewicz found themselves in a group with the Czech Republic, Albania, the Faroe Islands and Moldova.

“I think we could have ended up in a much more difficult group. The group is attractive and certainly within our reach. We know that two teams will get promoted and I think that Poland will go hand in hand with it,” commented the selector in an interview with TVP Sport.
Czesław Michniewicz also admitted that the only team he wanted to avoid in the qualifiers was Belarus. The selector also mentioned the recent rivalry between the White-and-Red team and Albania. When Paulo Sousa was the selector, the Poles beat this rival twice in the Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifiers, although the rivalry was even.
“I remember that match in Warsaw very well. Albania played very well and we took advantage of all the situations and won with a very high score (4:1), but this result did not reflect the course of the match. This is a team that has very well-trained footballers and can cause everyone a lot of problems,” Michniewicz said.
The Euro 2024 qualifiers will begin in just a few months – in March 2023 – and will last until November. The two best teams will advance from each group
