Lukashenko in an interview for RIA Novosti from December 2021: “Poland is under external control even more than Ukraine”

On social media, Alexander Lukashenko’s interview for the RIA Novosti of Russian agency Rossiya Segodnya aroused interest. Although the original text is from December 2021, the interview was recalled by some media just in the last few days. The Belarusian dictator stated in an interview with the Kremlin’s propaganda channel that the presidential election in Poland was “rigged,” the Polish government is “under US control” and Donald Tusk is “a strong politician.” Lukashenko has apparently forgotten that Western countries do not recognise the results of his country’s elections – pointing to the enormous falsifications.

At the end of September, a hitherto unknown letter written by Donald Tusk to Vladimir Putin on 5 June 2008, as well as a document with which former Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski had previously travelled to Moscow, were revealed in the #Jedziemy programme. What is recorded in the documents revealed by Michał Rachoń is shocking. The Polish authorities paid a kind of homage to Putin at the time, there were even references to the times of the Partitions of Poland and the Tsar.

Meanwhile, for a long time, it is Donald Tusk who has been accusing the United Right government of “Putinism.” Civic Platform’s (PO) leader Donald Tusk, while Russian missiles were being shelled on Ukrainian cities, decided to do politics and ruthlessly attack Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.

“Russia is beastly attacking Ukrainian cities, and meanwhile Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki is ranting at a rally of pro-Putin parties about the European Union as a “transnational beast.” It can’t get any worse,” PO President Donald Tusk wrote on Twitter.

“You have reached the level of the worst troll who has no inhibitions to take advantage of the tragedy of the people of Ukrainian cities,” Radosław Fogiel, the Law and Justice spokesman, replied.

The young activists of the “For Poland” Association decided to be in the driver’s seat and show Poles what Donald Tusk’s attitude towards Russia was when he was in power. “PO, headed by Tusk, has already crossed all the boundaries of hypocrisy,” they point out, referring to the accusations hurled by Tusk.

However, for the past few days, there has been a huge amount of interest on social media in an interview from December 2021 given to the Kremlin’s RIA Novosti by Alexander Lukashenko. A lot of space in it was devoted precisely to Donald Tusk and his role as leader of the opposition. Lukashenko began at one point to praise Tusk.

“Do you know how Duda won? He didn’t get 50%, they added,” Lukashenko declared in an interview with Russian media.

“There is strong opposition in Poland, now Donald Tusk has got there (…) When the opposition started protesting after the elections, a few thousand votes, less than one per cent, they added to him (Duda) to declare him the winner,” Lukashenko claimed. He called Jarosław Kaczyński, Mateusz Morawiecki and Andrzej Duda “the trio that rules Poland.”

Lukashenko elaborated on his theory about the Polish elections, maintaining that “when the opposition took to the streets, the Americans thumped: stop, let them stay, you later.” The Belarusian leader has made similar versions before.

“Poland is under external control even more than Ukraine,” Lukashenko said in an interview with Dmitry Kiselyov, the Kremlin’s leading propagandist has stressed.

Lukashenko also said that “with the arrival of Tusk, and he is a strong politician, they will break up there.”

“There is someone to talk to and there will be someone to talk to. Poles are not an easy society – they will force any politician to do what is profitable for them,” the Belarusian politician added.
