    Poland and Canada strengthen military cooperation

    The talks between Polish and Canadian Defence Ministers took place on October 11. The talks between the defence ministers of Poland and Canada concerning issues of bilateral military relations and cooperation within NATO. “We are allies. The Polish-Canadian cooperation has many dimensions,” Minister of National Defence Błaszczak noted after the meeting with Canadian Minister of Defence Anand.

     

    “We are allies. The Polish-Canadian cooperation has many dimensions. First of all, we cooperate on NATO’s eastern flank. We support Ukraine, we care that Ukraine is an independent state. We, Poles, care that we are neighbours with an independent Ukraine and not with Russia. We appreciate the Canadian commitment to NATO’s eastern flank. Our soldiers are stationed in Latvia, where Canada is the framework country. We participate in Canadian exercises and the Canadian military participates in Polish exercises. Together, we are building interoperability between our armed forces,” Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Mariusz Blaszczak noted after a meeting with Anita Anand, head of Canada’s defence ministry.

     

    The talks between the defence ministers of Poland and Canada concerning issues of bilateral military relations and cooperation within NATO. Topics relating to the war in Ukraine were raised, including support for Ukrainian troops. The heads of defence ministries also discussed the security situation and issues concerning technical modernisation and arms cooperation. 

     

    “We do not agree with attempts to rebuild the Russian empire. We have repeatedly warned against this. Our late President Lech Kaczyński spoke about it many times. Today, we see what the Russian troops are committing. They are committing crimes in the occupied Ukrainian territories. We will do everything to support Ukraine and we will do everything to stop attempts to rebuild the Russian empire. We will do everything to ensure that the war does not spill over into the countries of the North Atlantic Alliance,” the head of the Ministry of Defence said.

     

    During the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding between the Minister of National Defence of the Republic of Poland and the Canadian Department of National Defence on defence cooperation was signed.  

     

     

    “I am very pleased that I was able to meet today with my counterpart and my friend, Deputy Prime Minister Mariusz Blaszczak, and we were able to jointly sign a Memorandum of Understanding between Poland and Canada. This will be a truly deepened cooperation between the two allies. It will enable us to broaden our possibilities for cooperation primarily in the military area. Our soldiers will be able to train with each other more often, they will be able to learn from each other, but above all, they will also get to know each other, and thanks to this we will be able to increase the level of security,” Minister Anand said after signing the Memorandum.
