A commemorative illumination was displayed on the facade of the Presidential Palace on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the restoration of the name of the state – the Republic of Poland and the restoration of the crowned eagle in the emblem of Poland – the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland said.
By amendment to the constitution of December 29, 1989, the Sejm changed the name of the state to the Republic of Poland and restored the emblem with the crowned eagle. The first article of the constitution amended 30 years ago stated: “The Republic of Poland is a democratic state ruled by law, implementing the principles of social justice.” The following has been removed from the constitution: ideological introduction, sentences about socialism and planned economy, and regulations regarding the leading role of the Polish United Workers’ Party (PZPR – Polska Zjednoczona Partia Robotnicza).
