Ballads and Romances (Polish: Ballady i romanse) by Adam Mickiewicz on the 11th edition of the National Reading Day

Ballads and Romances (Polish: Ballady i romanse) by Adam Mickiewicz is the main reading of the 11th edition of the National Reading Day.

The National Reading campaign has been organized by the President of the Republic of Poland since 2012. It was initiated by the  reading together of Mickiewicz’s ‘Mister Thaddeus’ (Polish: ‘Pan Tadeusz’), Poland’s national epic. Then, Aleksander Fredro’s works were read all over Poland in 2013. The subsequent editions of the National Reading Day included the following readings: Henryk Sienkiewicz’s ‘The Trilogy’ and Bolesław Prus’ ‘The Doll’.

As every year, the project brings together schools, libraries and public institutions, including diplomatic missions, which traditionally invite famous Polish artists to take part.

The Presidential Couple will inaugurate the reading of Polish literary masterpieces on September 3.

“I believe that reading the works of our national bard will once again reveal the phenomenon of Polish Romanticism and enrich the jubilee celebrations with an important reflection on our culture and history. I would like this year’s National Reading to strengthen the unity and sense of community of Poles all over the world. And, as always, it would be a common reading celebration for us”, says President Andrzej Duda.
