“The enactment of the law (concerning Supreme Court – ed.) would probably, but not certainly, be considered as their fulfilment, but the consequences in Poland could be extremely destructive, not only for the judiciary but for the entire state apparatus and could harm Poland’s receipt of the main funds from the 2021-2027 budget perspective,” Kaczynski commented.
The President of Law and Justice Party was asked in an interview with ‘Gazeta Polska’ to assess the chances of the European Commission recognising Polish ‘milestones’ after the enactment of the next amendment to the Supreme Court Act.
“This matter is the subject of serious controversy in Poland so I cannot comment on it at the moment. The enactment of the law would probably, but not certainly, be considered as their fulfilment, but the consequences in Poland could be extremely destructive, not only for the judiciary but for the entire state apparatus and could harm Poland’s receipt of the main funds from the 2021-2027 budget perspective,” Kaczynski said.
Asked what he meant by the destructive impact of the amendment, the Law and Justice leader replied:
“Destructive in the sense of being able to undermine judicial appointments. The same doubts were expressed by President Andrzej Duda, which is why this law requires clarification and further consultation.”
