In a devastating turn of events, Polish mountaineer Paweł Kopeć lost his life during the descent from the summit of Nanga Parbat, an eight-thousander located in the western part of the Himalayas in Pakistan.
Paweł Kopeć was one of three Polish climbers who successfully reached the summit of Nanga Parbat on Sunday, alongside Piotr Krzyżowski and Waldemar Kowalewski. The climbers approached the summit individually.
However, difficulties arose during the descent above 7,300 meters above sea level. Fatigue and dehydration significantly weakened Paweł Kopeć, and in the morning, as reported by the portal, news arrived that the Polish mountaineer had passed away at Camp IV at an altitude of 7,000 meters or in its vicinity.
Paweł Kopeć had prior experience in Himalayan mountaineering. In 2018, he took part in an unsuccessful expedition to Manaslu, but the following year, he successfully climbed the mountain. In 2021, he participated in an expedition to Lhotse.
He was a member of the Świętokrzyski Mountaineering Club and resided in Kielce. Paweł was also an experienced cave climber and a member of the Polish Winter Himalayan Program. Additionally, he belonged to the Polish Mountaineering Association.
