In a digital age dominated by pixels and screens, a remarkable revival of traditional analog photography has been quietly unfolding. The International Vintage Photo Festival, affectionately known as the Vintage Photo Festival, has been at the forefront of this renaissance since its inception in 2015. The festival not only celebrates the art of traditional photography but also champions the belief that old photographic techniques are experiencing a vibrant resurgence.
This year, at the 9th edition of the Vintage Photo Festival, the theme will be ‘Observatory’, referring to the celebration of the year of Nicolaus Copernicus.
Analog Resurgence in a Digital Era
Amidst the revolutionary advancements of digital photography, the charm of analog photography has found its way back into the hearts of enthusiasts. Film cameras are staging a remarkable comeback, as evidenced by Kodak’s revival of discontinued negative films. Even younger artists are embracing analog photography as a medium of expression.
Preserving Heritage, Inspiring Innovation
Rooted in Bydgoszcz’s rich photographic heritage, once home to the country’s second-largest photographic materials factory, FOTON, the festival pioneers a unique blend of tradition and innovation. The festival stands as a powerful homage to traditional photography, bolstered by a modern educational and interactive platform. Its mission is to propagate the art of traditional photography while showcasing contemporary trends in the field.
A Global Gathering of Analog Aficionados
The Vintage Photo Festival has earned its place as one of the world’s premier celebrations of analog photography. Its emphasis on photographic archives led to its inclusion in The Analog Photography Festival Network (APFN) in 2022, a global alliance of festivals dedicated to analog photography.
A Storied Guest List
Distinguished guests have graced the festival, including luminaries like Ewa Rubinstein, Tadeusz Rolke, Laurent Benaïm, and more.
