In a recent statement, Grażyna Ignaczak-Bandych, the head of the Polish President’s Office, revealed that President Andrzej Duda is open to further discussions with election committees. She emphasized that the doors of the Presidential Palace remain open for such dialogues. This development comes following consultations held on Tuesday and Wednesday at the Presidential Palace, where President Duda met with representatives of election committees that will have a presence in the upcoming Sejm.
In his Thursday statement, President Duda underscored that two political groups claim to hold a parliamentary majority and have nominated prime minister candidates. The United Right’s candidate for prime minister is Mateusz Morawiecki, while the Civic Coalition (KO), the Third Way, and the Left have put forward Donald Tusk. Notably, these opposition parties have not formally formed a coalition or agreed on a coalition pact, nor have they announced their ministerial candidates.
Grażyna Ignaczak-Bandych, the head of the President’s Office, pointed out that President Duda has set November 13 as the date for the inaugural Sejm session. She explained that the President is adhering to the constitutional timeline for appointing a government and is using the available time wisely.
When asked whether the President is awaiting a coalition agreement and specific ministerial candidates, Ignaczak-Bandych stated that the doors of the Presidential Palace are open to committee representatives. She emphasized that the President is receptive to further discussions and consultations if needed. Poland’s political landscape remains in flux as the nation awaits the next steps in government formation.
