Polish Foreign Ministry Refutes Claims of Document Destruction Post-October Election

In response to allegations circulating on the Wirtualna Polska (WP) news and entertainment website, a Polish deputy foreign minister has dismissed accusations that the Foreign Ministry engaged in the destruction of documents following the October 15 general election.

Pawel Jablonski, a deputy foreign minister, addressed reporters in the Sejm, the lower house of parliament, on Wednesday, vehemently denying the allegations. He emphasized that all pertinent data had been appropriately archived in adherence to internal regulations.

“In its response, the ministry outlined the internal regulations governing document destruction,” Jablonski stated. “As part of established procedures that have been in place for many years, data storage devices are retained for a specified period, while the contents of the documents are also preserved in alternative formats, such as electronic copies.”

Jablonski sought to allay concerns raised by the WP report, asserting that the destruction of documents did not equate to data loss, as the information was safeguarded through various means. “All the data, including archived documents, undergo regular reviews,” he added. “In instances where multiple versions exist, data storage carriers may be discarded, in line with established procedures.”
