Today, at the headquarters of Poczta Polska on 8 Rodziny Hiszpańskich Street, an event organized by Poczta Polska S.A. and the Military Historical Bureau, under the patronage of General Sosnkowski, took place. The gathering focused on the introduction of a new stamp commemorating the life of General Kazimierz Sosnkowski (1885-1969), a Polish military commander, independence activist, and interwar period politician. From 1936, he held the rank of General of the Polish Army, coinciding with the 138th anniversary of his birth.
Among the distinguished guests were notable figures, including Krzysztof Falkowski, President of Poczta Polska; Professor Sławomir Cenckiewicz, Director of the Military Historical Bureau named after General Kazimierz Sosnkowski; and Dr. Łukasz Cięgotura, Deputy Director of the Military Historical Bureau.
Professor Sławomir Cenckiewicz delivered the eulogy for the general, stating, “We did not choose General Sosnkowski as the patron of the Military Historical Bureau in 2016 by accident. (…) I believe that this work will be continued precisely by the edition, the unveiling of a postage stamp that will commemorate this great figure. (…) I will only make one appeal: always remember General Sosnkowski, do not see him as a man of the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, but as a modern man who is a modern example of Polish patriotism.”
The stamp project utilized a black-and-white photograph of General Sosnkowski from the collection of Mrs. Halina Babińska. In the image, General Sosnkowski is depicted in a British-style uniform with Polish buttons featuring the crowned eagle and the insignia of a general of the Polish Army on the shoulder straps.
The photograph of General Sosnkowski was specially colorized by Mirosław Szponar, a well-known photographer and photojournalist. Along the right edge of the stamp, the inscription “POLSKA” and the emission name are placed. The denomination is located in the upper right corner. The stamp was printed using offset technology on fluorescent paper, with dimensions of 39.5 mm x 31.25 mm. The edition run is 144,000 pieces.
