President Andrzej Duda celebrated the 45th anniversary of the Social Committee for the Renewal of Krakow’s Monuments (SKOZK) during a plenary session at Wawel Castle. He highlighted the committee’s invaluable contribution to preserving Krakow’s historical treasures. The president acknowledged the committee’s origin in 1978 and emphasized the challenges faced by the city due to industrial pollution.
Duda conferred state honors to individuals dedicated to heritage preservation, including Tadeusz Jakubowicz and Piotr Lewicki. The recipients of the Officer’s Cross and Knight’s Cross of the Order of Rebirth of Poland were recognized for outstanding efforts in revitalizing Krakow’s monuments and advancing national cultural heritage.
New SKOZK members, including Prof. Andrzej Bednarczyk and Dr. Agnieszka Kamińska, received their appointments. The president, accompanied by cabinet ministers, laid a wreath at Wawel Cathedral before exploring the Royal Castle’s cellars.
The ceremony underscored Krakow’s beauty and the ongoing commitment to safeguard its rich history.
