Bartosz Zmarzlik Clinches Historic Fifth Speedway World Championship

Bartosz Zmarzlik has once again etched his name into the history books by winning his fifth world championship in speedway racing. At the penultimate round of the 2024 Speedway Grand Prix in Vojens, Denmark, the 28-year-old secured his title with a second-place finish, making him the first rider ever to claim five world championships before turning 30.

Heading into the event, Zmarzlik needed to outscore his closest rival, Fredrik Lindgren, by at least four points and stay ahead of Robert Lambert to clinch the title. Lindgren’s hopes faded after a poor performance, while Lambert advanced to the semifinals with an impressive 10 points. Zmarzlik himself won two heats and topped the qualification round with 12 points, inching closer to his historic triumph.

In the final race, Lambert took an early lead, but Zmarzlik’s second-place finish was enough to guarantee his fifth world title. Despite Lambert celebrating his first-ever GP win, it was Zmarzlik who stole the spotlight, marking his third consecutive championship and fifth overall. His win elevates him into an elite group of speedway legends, tying him with Sweden’s Ove Fundin in career titles.

The last round of the 2024 Speedway Grand Prix will take place in Toruń, Poland, on September 28.
