Iga Świątek Returns to Action, Set to Lead Poland in United Cup Quest

Iga Świątek, the World No.1 tennis player, has made a significant late decision to join the United Cup, a mixed-gender team tournament in Australia, beginning at the end of the year. After a brief break from competition due to fatigue and personal reasons, Świątek is preparing to return to the court.

Świątek’s upcoming plans include competing in the WTA Finals in Saudi Arabia from November 2-9, followed by the Billie Jean King Cup and the World Tennis League. Her addition to the United Cup roster adds another prestigious event to her calendar, where teams from 18 countries will compete. The tournament will feature a round-robin group stage leading to the knockout rounds, with up to 500 ranking points and a $10 million prize pool up for grabs.

The United Cup, running from December 27 to January 5, gives Poland a strong shot at redemption after reaching last year’s final but losing to Germany. Świątek will lead a capable Polish squad that includes players like Maja Chwalińska and Hubert Hurkacz, among others. The team’s depth boosts Poland’s chances of claiming the title.
