Poland’s U-17 women’s football team secured a 0-0 draw against Japan in their opening group stage match of the World Cup in the Dominican Republic. The Poles dominated early, but key chances were missed. In the 39th minute, Japan’s Anon Tsuda had a clear opportunity but misfired, allowing Poland to escape unscathed. Shortly after, Poland’s Oliwia Związek missed a one-on-one chance, leaving the score level at halftime.
Second Half Challenges
The second half saw increased pressure from Japan. Polish goalkeeper Julia Woźniak made several crucial saves, denying Japan’s Miharu Shinjo and keeping Poland in the match. Late in the game, Japan appealed for a penalty after Krystyna Flis handled the ball, but the referee dismissed the claims.
Poland will face Zambia on October 20 and Brazil on October 23 in their remaining group stage matches. The top two teams from each group will advance to the quarterfinals.
