The appearance of Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA) flags on Rosomak armored personnel carriers supplied by Poland to the Ukrainian army is a provocation that should not have occurred, stated Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz. He announced an urgent intervention with the Ukrainian attaché in Warsaw to address the issue.
On Friday, a video was posted on the WarNewsPL channel on Platform X, showing two wheeled armored vehicles bearing UPA flags.
“UPA flags on Rosomak armored personnel carriers supplied by Poland to the Ukrainian army is a provocation that should not have occurred,” Kosiniak-Kamysz wrote on Friday evening on Platform X.
He further explained that he had ordered an immediate meeting with the Ukrainian attaché in Warsaw to clarify the matter.
According to data from the Chancellery of the President of Poland, the country has provided Ukraine with 100 KTO Rosomak armored personnel carriers.
The historical legacy of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN) and the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA) has long strained relations between Poland and Ukraine. From 1943 to 1945, the UPA carried out ethnic cleansing that claimed the lives of approximately 100,000 Polish men, women, and children. While Poland views this as an act of genocide—systematic and deliberate—many Ukrainians regard it as a consequence of a symmetrical armed conflict for which both sides share responsibility.
