Mariusz Trynkiewicz, infamously known as the “Satan of Piotrków,” has passed away at the age of 62. The convicted murderer and pedophile died on January 9, 2025, while being held in the hospital ward of the Płock prison facility due to deteriorating health. His death was confirmed by Deputy Lieutenant Colonel Arleta Pęconek, spokesperson for the Director General of the Prison Service.
A Dark Chapter in Poland’s Criminal History
Trynkiewicz’s crimes shook Poland to its core in the late 20th century. In the 1980s, he was convicted of sexually abusing underage boys. However, his notoriety stemmed from a series of gruesome murders. In September 1989, he was sentenced to death for killing four teenage boys in the vicinity of Piotrków Trybunalski. Following the nationwide amnesty in December of the same year, his death sentence was commuted to 25 years in prison.
The “Beast Act” and Continued Incarceration
As Trynkiewicz’s release date approached in February 2014, public outrage and fears about his reintegration into society prompted the Polish government to pass the so-called “Beast Act.” This legislation allowed authorities to confine individuals deemed to pose a continued threat to public safety in secure facilities. Shortly after his release from prison, Trynkiewicz was transferred to a closed center in Gostynin, designated for such high-risk individuals.
Additional Convictions and Continued Imprisonment
Trynkiewicz’s criminal record extended beyond the murders. In July 2015, he was sentenced to 5.5 years in prison for possessing child pornography. A repeat offense in 2021 led to an additional six-year prison term. Since 2019, he had been serving his sentence at the Płock prison facility.
Death in Custody
The portal Gostynin24.pl reported that Trynkiewicz’s health had been declining, leading to his hospitalization within the prison’s medical unit. His death marks the end of a life that left a significant scar on Polish society.
