Robert Lewandowski has overtaken Kylian Mbappe. The Pole is again the top scorer in Europe

Robert Lewandowski has won the “European Golden Shoe” classification and reached the award for the top scorer in European leagues for the second time. The Polish footballer scored 35 goals in the Bundesliga season which has already ended, and with 70 points in the ranking overtook the Frenchman Kylian Mbappe from PSG – 56.

The captain of the White and Reds won the title of the best striker again and won the Golden Boot. The five strongest leagues in the Old Continent (English, Spanish, Italian, German and French) have a coefficient of “2”, hence the 70 points next to Lewandowski’s name for 35 hits in the Bundesliga. Last year, the Pole triumphed with 82 points.

Lewandowski was followed by Kylian Mbappe, who scored 28 goals for Paris Saint-Germain in the season that ended on Saturday and became the French league’s top scorer, Italian Ciro Immobile of Lazio Roma and Frenchman Karim Benzema of Real Madrid, who were the top scorers in Serie A and the Spanish league with 27 goals.

The next positions are occupied by: Frenchman Wissam Ben Yedder of AS Monaco – 50 points (25 goals), Czech Patrik Schick of Bayer Leverkusen and Serbian Dusan Vlahovic of Juventus Turin (he started the season at Fiorentina) – 48 (24) and the top scorers of the English Premier League – Egyptian Mohamed Salah of Liverpool and Korean Son Heung-Min of Tottenham Hotspur – 46 (23).

Argentina’s Lionel Messi holds the all-time record since he has won the Golden Shoe six times while Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo has four such statuettes in his collection. Lewandowski is one of 10 double winners.

Since the 1996/97 season, the award has been presented by European Sports Media – an organisation of 14 newspapers or magazines mainly or exclusively devoted to football – based on a criterion that takes into account the league’s power factor.
