The President of the Republic of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, has decided to request that the Prosecutor General present the case files of Mr. Adam Borowski, the Head of the Presidential Chancellery, Zbigniew Bogucki, announced on Tuesday. Earlier that day, a Warsaw court ruled that the anti-communist opposition activist should be imprisoned.
On Tuesday, Judge Katarzyna Bień of the District Court for Warsaw-Wola decided that Adam Borowski should serve a six-month prison sentence. The case concerns criticism of Roman Giertych that was expressed on the air of TV Republika. Borowski’s defense attorney, Krzysztof Wąsowski, announced that he would file an appeal against yesterday’s court decision.
The ruling of the Warsaw court has outraged patriotic circles. In the evening, the Head of the Presidential Chancellery, Zbigniew Bogucki, informed the public about the reaction of the head of state.
“Acting pursuant to Article 139 of the Constitution, the President of the Republic of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, has decided to request that the Prosecutor General, under Article 567 §2 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, present the case files of Mr. Adam Borowski without undue delay, within a period not exceeding 30 days,”
he stated on the X.
