Russians executed a Ukrainian prisoner of war, Timofey Shadura, for the words ‘Slava Ukraini.’ Footage of this crime has appeared on the internet. The officials in Kyiv demand that perpetrators be brought before an international tribunal.
Yesterday, a video allegedly showing the murder of a Ukrainian prisoner of war by the Russians appeared on social media. It shows an unarmed man standing, smoking a cigarette. The filmed man says ‘Slava Ukraini’ (Glory to Ukraine – ed.). A rifle shot is heard, after which the man falls.
The incident was widely reported by the Ukrainian authorities
In an evening speech, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky assured that the killers would be found.
“I want us all to respond to his words together, in unity: Glory to the hero. Glory to the heroes. Glory to Ukraine. And we will find the killers. Thank you to all those who are now fighting for Ukraine. Thank you to all who are helping Ukraine. Eternal memory and respect to all who gave their lives for freedom for our people,” he said.
For the time being, it is not known where and when the whole situation took place, nor who recorded the video.
However, journalists have reached the family of the Ukrainian military officer, who confirmed that he is the one in the video. According to the 30th Mechanised Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, he is Tymofey Shadura, who fought at Bakhmut and was declared missing on 3 February.
Final confirmation of the identity will only be possible once the body is obtained and an autopsy is conducted – the corpse is currently being in Russian-occupied territory.
