The head of Civic Platform’s local branch in Suwałki may have breached election silence rules. Local media report a scandal involving a Facebook post published on election day, promoting a specific presidential candidate.
Voting in Poland’s presidential election began at 7:00 a.m. on Sunday. Thirteen candidates are running, and until polls close, all forms of campaigning are strictly prohibited under election silence laws. However, not everyone appears to be observing the rules.
Civic Platform Politicians Disregard Election Silence
According to the Głos Suwałk Facebook page, on Sunday, May 18—the very day of the presidential vote—a Facebook event titled “On May 18, I’m voting for [candidate’s name]” appeared on the official page of Anna Naszkiewicz, the head of Civic Platform’s Suwałki branch. The page also shared a recording as evidence of the alleged violation.
Piotr Wasilewski also drew attention to the matter on social media, posting:
“ATTENTION! Anna Naszkiewicz, head of Civic Platform in Suwałki, VIOLATED ELECTION SILENCE by posting on her public Facebook page, on May 18 at 11:23 a.m., an event encouraging votes for a specific candidate. She’s yet another PO politician who’s broken the silence,” he wrote on X.com.
This isn’t the first such incident involving Civic Platform officials during this election. Even after the campaign officially ended, several KO politicians continued to post election-related content, including Deputy Justice Minister Arkadiusz Myrcha and MP Piotr Głowski. Their explanations sparked ridicule—Myrcha claimed a technical error caused a delayed graphic upload, while Głowski blamed the X.com platform, suggesting it published his scheduled post at the wrong time.
