Arcelor Mittal Park in Sosnowiec has emerged as a global ice hockey hotspot, hosting four international events, including pre-qualifications for the 2026 Winter Olympic Games. President Arkadiusz Chęciński announced the city’s honor in welcoming South Korea, Ukraine, and the winner of the second round of eliminations as Poland’s rivals in the February “Olympic” tournament.
The Polish Ice Hockey Association’s President, Mirosław Minkina, revealed that despite the initial priority for hosting by South Korea, an agreement was reached, highlighting the city’s collaborative spirit. The stadium, with a seating capacity of 2,545, will also feature the Four Presidents’ Tournament from August 23-25, featuring GKS Tychy, Sokol Kyiv, Unia Oświęcim, and Zagłębie Sosnowiec.
Beyond hockey, the versatile facility caters to various needs, including athlete zones, fan areas, VIP sections, media spaces, security, and medical services. The stadium boasts technical features like a broadcasting camera platform and a suspended four-sided CUBE LED screen.
Scheduled for November is the Independence Cup, followed by the 2024 U18 World Championships in April. The transformation of Arcelor Mittal Park into a multifunctional venue marks a triumph for residents and supports local hockey growth. With a daily schedule from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM, the arena is set to buzz with activities.
