Today, Archbishop Adrian Galbas officially assumed his role as the Metropolitan of the Archdiocese of Warsaw. His enthronement ceremony took place at St. John the Baptist Archcathedral and was attended by state officials and clergy. In his homily, Archbishop Galbas emphasized his pastoral mission, stating, “I come to Warsaw as a pastor, not as a politician, businessman, or genius.” He also expressed his commitment to walking alongside the faithful in a spirit of synodality.
A Church for All
Archbishop Galbas addressed those who feel disconnected from the Church, including non-believers, doubters, and those who have left in disappointment. He declared his desire to create a Church that welcomes everyone, even those who feel excluded or hurt. Referring to the struggles of such individuals, he remarked, “People who leave the Church in search of God often say, ‘God is no longer here.’”
Born in 1968 in Bytom, Archbishop Galbas is a Pallottine priest ordained in 1994. He has served in various leadership roles, including auxiliary bishop of Ełk and later as Archbishop of Katowice. His recent appointment as Metropolitan Archbishop of Warsaw followed the resignation of Cardinal Kazimierz Nycz.
A Vision for Warsaw
Archbishop Galbas envisions a Church grounded in truth and compassion. He firmly rejected negative stereotypes about the Church, stating, “The Church is not a thief or a liar.” His message is one of unity, humility, and hope for all.
