Robert Bąkiewicz, leader of the Border Defense Movement (Ruch Obrony Granic), is set to face charges of insulting officers of the Border Guard and Military Police at the Polish-German border in Słubice. Although prosecutors from Gorzów Wielkopolski expressed doubts about the case, the order to press charges reportedly came directly from the regional prosecutor in Szczecin, Jadwiga Kułakowska-Gorczyńska.
The investigation into the events that took place on the Słubice border bridge on June 29 is being conducted by the District Prosecutor’s Office in Gorzów Wielkopolski. At the time, Bąkiewicz shared a video of his interaction with Border Guard officers, writing:
“We have great respect for the Polish uniform and have expressed this countless times. But we cannot stand idle while you bring mortal danger to us and our families.”
Now, it appears that Bąkiewicz will be charged with insulting law enforcement officers. The decision to indict him was made by the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Szczecin, which oversees the Gorzów unit. According to a statement from that office, prosecutors had differing interpretations of the evidence—but the order to act was ultimately top-down.
“Today, the Regional Prosecutor in Szczecin issued an instruction to the case prosecutor in the Gorzów Wielkopolski District Prosecutor’s Office to press charges against Robert B. for insulting officers of the Border Guard and Military Police on June 29, 2025, in Słubice, during and in connection with the performance of their official duties,” announced Przemysław Nowak, spokesperson for the National Prosecutor’s Office, on platform X.
Bąkiewicz has already responded:
“Any moment now I will be charged and likely detained!
I see this entire case as an obvious attempt to intimidate and silence me—not motivated by legal grounds, but by a desire to weaken the activities of the Border Defense Movement, an initiative that is fully committed to defending Polish sovereignty and the security of our borders and citizens.
We are doing nothing wrong. Our actions are entirely legal and deeply rooted in concern for the national interest. Yet once again, the current government resorts to pressure tactics against those who courageously oppose the destabilization of the state and the dismantling of its institutions.
I have never insulted any officer of the Border Guard or the Police. On the contrary, I have always held the Polish uniform in the highest regard. The proceedings launched against me have nothing to do with justice—it’s a tool of repression used against those inconvenient to the authorities. The goal is to force me to abandon my public and social activities, which are firmly based on care for Poland.
I have no intention of backing down. The Border Defense Movement will continue its mission—lawfully, courageously, and with a sense of responsibility for the future of our Homeland.
Of course, I will comply with the summons from the prosecutor’s office in Gorzów Wielkopolski. My attorneys are already engaged in the case. However, knowing the methods used by law enforcement under the so-called ‘smiling coalition,’ I wouldn’t be surprised if tomorrow at dawn I receive some unexpected visitors at my home.”
