Between “Sleeping Beauty” and the Minister of Agriculture: Insights from Negotiations with Ukraine

During the negotiations, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of Poland Michal Kolodziejczak behaved strangely. He jumped up and ran out of the room many times, then came back, sniffled, and showed some rather nervous behavior – this is how the Ukrainian Grain Association describes the behind-the-scenes of today’s talks with the Polish side.

Afternoon discussions between Minister Czesław Siekierski and Ukrainian Minister of Agriculture Mykola Solsky, with the participation of Deputy Minister Michał Kołodziejczak and Ukrainian Deputy Minister of Economy Taras Kachka, were taking place at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. Representatives of Polish and Ukrainian agricultural organizations were also participating in the meeting.

A report on Polish-Ukrainian talks appeared on the social media of the Ukrainian Grain Association (UGA).

Ukrainians claimed the unusual behavior of Deputy Minister Kołodziejczak in their posts.

“During the negotiations, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of Poland Michal Kolodziejczak behaved strangely. He jumped up and ran out of the room many times, then came back, sniffled, and showed some rather nervous behavior,” they wrote in one of the entries.

“Due to his “peculiar” manner of negotiations, no agreement was reached this time on other problematic issues of bilateral cooperation,” they added.

Earlier reports suggested that a compromise had been reached regarding “fruits and honey.” UGA expressed hope that “Ukraine and Poland will be able to resolve all issues, no matter how difficult they may seem.”

On Twitter, Michał Kołodziejczak stated that “as seen, his arguments in the conversation with the Ukrainian Ministry of Agriculture turned out to be very valid.”
