Błaszczak on the Importance of the Presidential Elections: A Referendum on the December 13 Coalition

“Karol Nawrocki will continue what the late President Lech Kaczyński began and the policy pursued by President Andrzej Duda,” said Mariusz Błaszczak, head of the Law and Justice (PiS) parliamentary group. He criticized the public prosecutor’s office, which, according to him, is focused on fighting the opposition. He also stated that the presidential elections would serve as “a referendum on the December 13 coalition.”

The former Minister of National Defence, during a press conference in Chełm (Lublin Voivodeship), urged support for Karol Nawrocki, the presidential candidate backed by PiS.

Nawrocki’s Policy Agenda: Defense Expansion, Tax Cuts, and Economic Sovereignty at the Forefront

Błaszczak presented 21 policy proposals from Nawrocki’s platform, including, among others: increasing the size of the armed forces to at least 300,000 soldiers; reducing VAT from 23% to 22%; a 0% personal income tax (PIT) rate for families with two or more children; a minimum pension and disability benefits indexation of 150 PLN; access to public services and healthcare; opposition to “destructive ideologies” that “demoralize children in schools”; implementation of patriotic programs in schools; reducing energy bills by one-third; rejection of the Green Deal; preservation of Poland’s national currency; and protection of Polish agriculture from imports from South America and Ukraine.

The most significant economic initiatives in Nawrocki’s program include: local investments, the Central Communication Port, nuclear energy development, and the expansion of Baltic Sea ports.

Błaszczak Frames Election as a Battle for Sovereignty and Calls for Referendum on Migration Pact

Błaszczak encouraged citizens to sign a petition calling for a national referendum on the Migration Pact, which, in his view, should be rejected.

The PiS parliamentary leader stated that the presidential elections would serve as “a referendum on the December 13 coalition.” He suggested that the current government is prepared to “hand over control of Poland’s defence to Brussels—read: Berlin.” He recalled that in 2011, a concept of defending Poland along the Vistula River was adopted, which, in his interpretation, would have entailed potentially “ceding nearly half of Poland to Russian occupation.” According to Błaszczak, if Nawrocki were elected, he would not accept such plans.

Błaszczak also referred to the death of Barbara Skrzypek, a longtime associate of PiS leader Jarosław Kaczyński, the arrest of PiS MP Dariusz Matecki, and his own interrogation by the prosecutor’s office, which, in his assessment, “is focused on political struggle—on fighting the opposition.” “These proceedings are political in nature,” he noted.
