This weekend, Łódź will celebrate the 130th birthday of one of its most beloved poets, Julian Tuwim. The festivities will run from September 13-15, 2024, with the theme inspired by a famous line from his iconic poem The Locomotive: “In motion!” This dynamic phrase encapsulates the spirit of the celebrations.
Highlights of the Celebrations
The events begin on Friday with a tribute at Tuwim’s statue on Piotrkowska Street, followed by a musical concert. Later, workshops for children and adults will take place, inspired by literature and poetry. Saturday will feature a family walk through Tuwim’s Łódź and a special talk with author Michał Rusinek.
Closing Events
On Sunday, participants can take a guided tour following the lives of Julian and his wife, Irena Tuwim, and attend the launch of a special writing book, Łódź: A Book to Write In, at Hilary Majewski’s historic townhouse.
This year’s celebrations aim to bring Tuwim’s creative energy to life, just as his words made a locomotive spring into motion.
