Concerns Over Media Freedom in Poland Echo in the U.S.

Polish media freedom faces threats of censorship, sparking shock in the U.S. Mateusz Morawiecki calls for action.

In a recent discussion with EIC of TV Republika, Tomasz Sakiewicz on Gość Dzisiaj, former Polish Prime Minister and current ECR leader Mateusz Morawiecki raised alarms about threats to media freedom in Poland. He highlighted concerns over proposed internet censorship and attacks on independent outlets like Republika, which have drawn significant international attention.

Shock in Washington
Morawiecki revealed that U.S. senators and congress members were shocked to learn about Poland’s plans to restrict social media platforms. “They couldn’t believe that in Europe, a country would move to block the flow of information,” he stated.

He warned that these measures resemble authoritarian methods of the 1980s, emphasizing the crucial role of free speech in democracy. “Lack of pluralism paves the way for centralized power under foreign influence,” he noted.

Morawiecki announced plans for a major event in Poland focused on defending freedom of speech, further underscoring the importance of the issue.
