Professor Sławomir Cenckiewicz, appointed head of the National Security Bureau (BBN), along with his deputies, Generals Andrzej Kowalski and Mirosław Bryś, will bring a “professional touch” to the institution and usher in a new standard in Poland’s national security and defense discourse — said Deputy Speaker of the Sejm and Confederation leader Krzysztof Bosak.
On Thursday, President-elect Karol Nawrocki announced that Prof. Cenckiewicz would lead the BBN, with Kowalski and Bryś serving as his deputies. Nawrocki emphasized his intention for the Presidential Palace to become a key center shaping Poland’s security policy — including military, civil, operational, and analytical dimensions.
Bosak expressed strong appreciation for Cenckiewicz’s qualifications, describing him as “undoubtedly an experienced state official” with a specialization in national security and intelligence services. He added that he hopes for effective collaboration, professionalism, and a firm focus on Poland’s national interest.
“I believe that both Professor Cenckiewicz and Generals Kowalski and Bryś will bring the professionalism of individuals who have served in intelligence services or the Polish Armed Forces. We will have an institution that introduces a new level of quality to the debate on national security and defense,” — added the Deputy Speaker.
According to Bosak, the BBN should immediately begin overseeing two key areas: the country’s migration policy and border protection strategy. He argued that these issues require more active engagement than seen so far.
Bosak also called for the BBN to conduct an ongoing audit of the Polish Armed Forces’ modernization process. He stressed the importance of preventing negligence, oversight, and delays in building critical capabilities — particularly in areas such as drones, satellite reconnaissance, ammunition supply, communications, and electronic warfare.
“These are major challenges, and we need professionals who will keep their finger on the pulse, inform the president, and also keep the parliament updated on what is happening and how effectively we are achieving our goals,” — said the Confederation politician.
