President Karol Nawrocki took part in a teleconference organized by U.S. President Donald Trump.
“The President presented the position that the Russian Federation must not be allowed to decide where Europe’s borders lie, nor dictate the foreign policy directions of individual states,” said presidential minister Marcin Przydacz during a press briefing following the talks with Donald Trump.
It was President Karol Nawrocki—not Prime Minister Donald Tusk—who joined the video conference with Donald Trump, Volodymyr Zelensky, and leaders of European Union states, Telewizja Republika has learned. This information was later confirmed by both the Presidential Chancellery and the Prime Minister’s Office.
During the briefing, Head of the Presidential International Policy Bureau Marcin Przydacz and presidential spokesperson Rafał Leśkiewicz revealed what the European leaders had discussed with the U.S. president.
“We live in very dynamic times; many things are happening in international politics. Poland, as an important European country and a key state in the Central and Eastern European region, must—and does—remain highly active in this political and international dynamic. President Karol Nawrocki, from his very first day in office—and even before that—has been very active,” said Przydacz, recalling Nawrocki’s visit to Washington during the election campaign.
“All of this, of course, revolves around security matters, because they are the most important to us—and to Poles. We are all watching closely what is happening in international politics, and we know that the discussion on Central and Eastern Europe’s security will reach a climax in just two days in Alaska. That is where President Trump will meet with Vladimir Putin. Right before those talks, President Trump decided to consult with key European leaders, among whom was naturally his counterpart from the Republic of Poland, President Karol Nawrocki,” Przydacz explained.
“This over hour-long conversation has just ended. It was a very small group of European politicians most deeply engaged in these matters. The President of Poland presented the position that we have maintained for months and years, looking at Russia’s aggressive policies—that only through firm language and concrete, decisive action can the Russian Federation be restrained. That we cannot allow the Russian Federation to determine where Europe’s borders lie or dictate the foreign policy of individual states,” the presidential minister emphasized.
Przydacz also stressed:
“It had to be made clear that the final resolution of this matter must involve the Ukrainian state and its representatives.”
On Friday, U.S. and Russian leaders Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin are scheduled to meet in the U.S. state of Alaska to discuss the war in Ukraine and possible peace talks.
