Prosecutors investigate forgery of 20 death records at Warsaw’s Southern Hospital

As journalists have reported, prosecutors are conducting proceedings concerning the forgery of twenty death certificates at Southern Hospital in Warsaw. Earlier, during a press conference, the spokesperson for the Warsaw District Prosecutor’s Office, prosecutor Piotr A. Skiba, stated that “at present, as far as medical documentation is concerned, we have no proceedings in which such issues could be raised.”

Prosecutor Skiba also said that, after analysing all cases handled by the Warsaw District Prosecutor’s Office and the district prosecutor’s offices, with particular attention paid to the Warsaw-Ursynów District Prosecutor’s Office, it had been established that from the beginning of 2023 until now a total of 32 proceedings had been registered concerning various offences allegedly committed on the premises of Southern Hospital.

“These are not only matters concerning negligence that may have resulted in death, but also issues involving misappropriation of property, violation of the bodily integrity of a doctor or nurse, insults, threats, and theft,” the prosecutor’s office spokesperson explained. He specified that 12 proceedings concerned deaths that occurred at the hospital. Nine of them were initiated following a notification from the hospital, and one following a notification from a doctor. Five of them concern deaths that took place in the hospital’s Emergency Department.

“One of these proceedings is still ongoing. It concerns the death of a patient whose body was discovered in a toilet,” prosecutor Skiba explained, adding that this was the case reported today in writing by Dr Jędrzejewski.

When asked about proceedings concerning the falsification of medical records, Skiba began answering in a rather convoluted manner.

“We know what proceedings are being conducted in Warsaw’s Ursynów district. There are indeed several proceedings there, but whether this concerns document forgery, at what point, by whom, what kind of forgery, is a very broad statement. At present, as far as medical documentation is concerned, we have no proceedings in which such issues could be raised. None of the proceedings being conducted in Warsaw’s Ursynów district concerns the carrying out of unnecessary examinations on human remains or the use of such actions to cover up any acts or omissions,”

the spokesperson said.

It turns out that the spokesperson for the Warsaw prosecutor’s office failed to tell the truth.

Mariusz Gierszewski of Radio Zet reported that prosecutors are conducting an investigation into irregularities at the mortuary of Southern Hospital.

“Forged signatures, a missing stamp, and irregularities in the mortuary documentation of Southern Hospital in Warsaw,”

Gierszewski listed.

The journalist cited Skiba’s statement to Radio Zet, in which the spokesperson for the Warsaw District Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that such proceedings were underway, but said that they “concern neither the persons nor the circumstances linked to the latest media revelations.”

Patryk Słowik from the zero.pl portal confirmed these findings.

“The prosecutor’s office is conducting proceedings concerning the forgery of twenty death certificates at Warsaw Southern Hospital. The case was opened on 12 May 2026,”

he wrote on social media.
