The discussion was supposed to focus on the proposal to establish a Public Trust Commission and the scandal involving Warsaw’s hospitals. Instead, one of the TVN journalists decided to ask Law and Justice (PiS) leader Jarosław Kaczyński a sarcastic question unrelated to the proposed measures. Rafał Bochenek’s response was immediate and exceptionally firm. “You’re simply making fun of the issue,” the party’s spokesperson said.
Lawmakers from Law and Justice (PiS), led by the party’s chairman Jarosław Kaczyński, held a press conference today outlining details of the proposed Public Trust Commission, which would investigate the Civic Platform (KO) hospital scandal in Warsaw.
“We have prepared a comprehensive draft bill that would make it possible to establish the Public Trust Commission. I would like to emphasize from the outset that this would not be a parliamentary investigative committee or an institution comparable to commissions that currently exist or have existed in Poland’s political system. Above all, it would be a completely non-partisan body, with no politicians among its members. The members would be elected by the Sejm, but candidates would primarily be nominated by professional organizations from the medical sector, including medical chambers, nursing chambers, trade unions, and other similar bodies. The commission would also include three lawyers specializing in healthcare law,” Jarosław Kaczyński explained.
TVN Employee Mocked the Scandal. Bochenek Fired Back
When it was time for questions from journalists, a TVN employee addressed Law and Justice (PiS) chairman Jarosław Kaczyński with what many considered a flippant question.
“Would the Public Trust Commission also investigate the case of an orthopedic doctor delivering crutches to your home?” the journalist asked.
The party’s spokesperson, Rafał Bochenek, immediately responded.
“Sir, we are talking about massive abuses. Massive abuses in Warsaw’s hospitals, and you’re making fun of it. You’re simply making fun of the issue. We are talking about what happened in the morgue. We are talking about how money was siphoned out of Warsaw’s hospitals and how Civic Platform (KO) activists operated freely within that system for months…” the politician said, addressing the journalist.
“The real question is whether you ask those in power about these matters,” he added.
