PGE Dystrybucja, a PGE Group company, will receive a grant of more than PLN 27.5 million from the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (NFOŚiGW) under the Modernisation Fund. The funds will be used for the construction of the transformer/switching station in Zamość. The total cost of the investment will be over PLN 47.6 million.
“The transformation of the energy sector requires capital-intensive investments. Support for the implementation of these ambitious plans is provided by aid funds, including those from the Modernisation Fund. The agreement signed today with the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management is PGE’s first agreement under the Modernisation Fund. The coming years will see the largest-ever capital expenditure on electricity networks. In the next six years alone, until 2028, they will amount to as much as PLN 18 billion in the PGE Group. The completed investments will enable the integration of newly created renewable energy sources and ensure the reliability of supply and appropriate quality parameters,”

“Investments in efficient and modern charging infrastructure are crucial for the further development of the electromobility market. Therefore, in order to enable the development of charging infrastructure, in parallel we have launched a programme called ‘Development of power infrastructure for the development of electric vehicle charging stations’, which is aimed at distribution system operators (DSOs),”
says Przemysław Ligenza, president of NFOŚiGW.
“Under the programme, it is possible to obtain support for investments in the construction of power lines and transformer stations, which are necessary for the construction of fast vehicle charging stations. A total of PLN 1 billion is earmarked for this purpose in the form of grants. The funds come from the Modernisation Fund. The budget for the first completed call was PLN 100 million. At the same time, from 12 December this year until 30 April 2023, applications can be submitted in the second call for distribution system operators with a budget of PLN 500 million,”
adds President Ligenza.
The funds received from the NFOŚiGW will be used to modernise an essential element of the city’s electricity infrastructure, namely the 220/110/15 kV Zamość substation. The total cost of the investment will amount to more than PLN 47.6 million, including a grant of more than PLN 27.5 million from the Fund.
“The agreement signed today on the co-financing of the Zamość substation is a very important declaration for PGE Dystrybucja from the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management. Grants such as this one help optimise the company’s ambitious investment plan, the implementation of which means increased security of supply to customers,”
said Jarosław Kwasek, President of the Management Board of PGE Dystrybucja.
“Low-emission transport is one of the directions in which the economy is heading and we are glad that NFOŚiGW is creating conditions for its development,”
he added.
PGE Dystrybucja’s investment in the Zamość branch is also crucial in ecological terms. Thanks to NFOŚiGW’s co-financing of the modernisation, it will be possible to reduce carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides and PM10 particulate matter annually, of which CO2 alone will amount to over 131 tonnes. The construction of an indoor station will enable all equipment to be housed in the building, which not only reduces its size but also makes it environmentally friendly.
The modernised substation is shared, i.e. connected directly to the transmission infrastructure of the Polish Power Grid (PSE). The PSE 220 kV Dobrotwór line is introduced into the PSE 220 kV Dobrotwór, through which energy is transited as part of international exchange. This makes the facility jointly responsible for maintaining the security of the electricity supply throughout the country.
It is a priority for the PGE Group to ensure the security and continuity of electricity supplies to consumers. In addition to environmental aspects, investment is also of great importance for local communities. Modern infrastructure and innovative technological solutions will improve the quality parameters of the grid and reduce its vulnerability, limiting interruptions in power supply caused by atmospheric phenomena.
The Modernisation Fund, which is operated by the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management, serves to modernise the energy sector in Poland. PGE’s project received funding under the ‘Development of electricity infrastructure for the development of electric vehicle charging stations’ programme and is aimed at expanding or modernising the distribution network for the development of electromobility.
