First Ziobro, now Matecki? “If I get the indictment, I’ll publish the evidence”

Reports emerged today in the media that the National Prosecutor’s Office (PK) would send an indictment against Dariusz Matecki to the District Court in Szczecin later the same day. That has now happened. What does the main person concerned know about it? “I don’t know anything about it. For now, I’ve only learned about it from the media. But it’s good that they’re finally sending the indictment, because they were supposed to do it before the summer holidays. They even lied about that,” commented the Law and Justice (PiS) MP in an interview with Niezalezna.pl.

We recall that on Tuesday Waldemar Żurek, the current head of the Ministry of Justice (MS) and the Prosecutor General, submitted to the Speaker of the Sejm, Szymon Hołownia, a motion seeking consent to hold Ziobro criminally liable, as well as to detain and arrest him. The submission of the 158-page request by the prosecution was announced at a press conference by the spokesperson for the Prosecutor General, Prosecutor Anna Adamiak.

The case concerns alleged irregularities in the spending of funds from the Justice Fund. According to the Prosecutor General’s spokesperson, during his tenure as head of the Ministry of Justice, Ziobro allegedly founded and led an organized criminal group that embezzled over PLN 150 million from that fund.

First Ziobro, now Matecki

Today, meanwhile, “TVN24 findings” appeared in the media, according to which the National Prosecutor’s Office would, on Thursday, send an indictment against Dariusz Matecki to the District Court in Szczecin. It was reported that the Law and Justice MP faces six charges. That has now been confirmed. As National Prosecutor’s Office spokesperson Przemysław Nowak stated, the prosecution accuses the politician of committing a total of six crimes.

“I don’t know anything about it. For now, I’ve only learned about it from the media. But it’s good that they’re finally sending the indictment, because they were supposed to do it before the summer holidays. They even lied about that. They lie at every turn. The question is why and what’s behind this sudden rush – both in Minister Ziobro’s case and mine. I wonder what they’re trying to cover up…” said the politician in an interview with Niezalezna.pl.

Referring to the indictment itself, the MP admitted that “he’s been waiting for this move.”

“They are the ones prolonging the process completely unnecessarily. The charges are so absurd, political, and fabricated that I’m eager to confront them in court. I just hope it won’t be before judges handpicked by Mr. Żurek, but rather those assigned through random selection.”

He added that “these are the same charges that were raised before the parliamentary immunity committee, and for which they unjustly put me in detention for two months.”

“As far as I know, there’s nothing new there. Once the prosecution confirms that it’s been filed, I’ll be able to publish the evidence related to this so-called investigation, which will discredit the prosecution. For now, I can’t yet, because it hasn’t been confirmed. However, in the coming days, I’ll definitely be publishing materials that will expose those prosecutors,” the MP told Niezalezna.pl.

In March this year, MP Dariusz Matecki (PiS) was detained by officers of the Internal Security Agency (ABW) on the orders of the prosecution in an investigation concerning the Justice Fund. The National Prosecutor’s Office charged the MP with six offenses, punishable by up to 10 years in prison. The Law and Justice MP pleaded not guilty and provided extensive explanations. By decision of Judge Joanna Włoch, he was placed in custody for two months.
