Despite Zhang’s higher ranking in the WTA, she was considered the favorite going into the match. Lasting only 47 minutes, the encounter marked their second meeting, with their previous clash occurring in Hiroshima back in 2018, where Zhang emerged victorious.
At the age of 25, Fręch will now advance to the second round of the French Open for the second time in her career.
